Last fall was one of those times when I took interest in baseball—the St. Louis Cardinals were on their way to becoming World Series champs. This year hasn’t gone so well for Cardinals fans. However, what’s this? The Philadelphia Phillies make the playoffs? My hometown team? Ooooo… Time to jump on the bandwagon!

You may remember last year when my entry into the Seminary’s March Madness Bracket contest paid off with a prize for second place, despite my knowing next to nothing about college basketball. Well, I still know next to nothing about college basketball, and there’s no prize on the line this year since I’m now an employee rather than a student at the seminary; but I filled out another bracket anyway. I won’t claim that courting a young woman who happens to attend the U of I hasn’t biased my pick for the team to win it all, but it turns out that they’re nigh undefeated, so they probably belong there regardless.

Back in the month of March, you may recall that there was a random quantum fluctuation in the greater St. Louis region that caused me to be interested in college basketball. Specifically, I had entered the seminary’s March Madness bracket contest and I found myself in first place going into the Final Four. Well, the final scores came in a while ago, and I ended up in a respectable second place. That fine finish earned me a $10 gift certificate to Applebee’s and an appearance on the cover of the Covenant Courier—the seminary’s weekly campus newsletter.

The photo on the cover of the April 12, 2004 issue of the Covenant Courier

Of course, the funny thing is that I know next to nothing about college basketball, so my bracket was nothing but slightly educated guesses.

Due to a strange quantum anomaly in the Saint Louis area, I’m actually interested in “March Madness” this year. Then again, maybe it’s just because the Seminary is giving away prizes for the best bracket predictions, and I had nothing to lose by simply guessing out of my ignorance of all things sporty. Anyway… who did I pick to win it all?

Georgia Tech. Don’t ask why, because I know nothing. Check out my full bracket.
